Guided Response: Select two of your classmates discussions and reflect on their viewpoints regarding the key issues of focus. In your response, compare and contrast your own discussion with your classmates viewpoints, or offer any new learning that has occurred for you in relation to their perspectives. Anika GuidryAs Evans et al. (2010) noted, Chickering argued that the college environment has a tremendous influence over a college students development (Chickering, 1969; Chickering & Reiser, 1993). Select one of the key issues facing todays college freshmen from the list below and use any individual identity theory (or combination of theories) to justify your discussion as to how the issue may influence a students college persistence and/or academic success:Academic preparednessThe transition from high school college can be overwhelming for the students that were dependent in college. These students wait for teachers to remind them of assignments and are forgetful when it comes to academics. I see it now with middle school students, their teacher has to run them down to turn assignments that were due the week before but their parent begged for an extension.I think the person component of Bronfenbrenners theory is the cause of this issue. One of Sedlaceks eight noncognitive variables is successfully handling the system. If the student had a hard time handling the system in high school they are not development to be prepared for college.Evans, N. J., Forney, D. S., Guido, F. M., Patton, L. D., & Renn, K. A. (2010). Student development in college: Theory, research, and practice. 2nd ed.Camille Nunez As Evans et al. (2010) noted, Chickering argued that the college environment has a tremendous influence over a college students development (Chickering, 1969; Chickering & Reiser, 1993). Select one of the key issues facing todays college freshmen from the list below and use any individual identity theory (or combination of theories) to justify your discussion as to how the issue may influence a students college persistence and/or academic success:Academic preparedness Family-related issues Job-related issuesErickson theorized that people develop their identity in different stages starting from babies. These identity development stages can affect todays college students and their success in higher education. In his fourth stage called Industry vs Inferiority, Erickson believed that children begin to expand from their parents although they are still influential in their decisions. When they feel encourage and support, they begin to test new ideas and new skills that might be helpful or useful to others. This is referred to as industry. An example of a skill that would be helpful could be seen in students who are successful in math. They may offer to tutor others or form study groups for the benefit of others. This can be seen in high school as well as in college. If students during this stage do not get encouragement or support, they can develop inferiority complexes. Freshman college students who struggle with identity may not know what they want to do when they start higher education. They may take a few general classes waiting to see if a particular area of study is the right fit. They may start a career path and then change after two semesters wracking up credits and perhaps debt with no real diploma or career in sight. This can lead to frustration and disenchantment with college as a whole. This can also end with dropout and unsatisfying low- level, low-paying jobs.Evans, N. J., Forney, D. S., Guido, F.
